There is always an “other”. An antagonist has much to teach you, for he is the personification of your struggles and weaknesses. He is a version of you that has become perverted in his principles. He enters and contorts your psyche because he is a living reminder of what lies waiting for you if you should fail in your quest. Every villain is, after all, a failed hero.
